    Default Waders...Layers?

Hello all, in a discussion a while ago with Mtnman about the purpose of layers on waders. What are the purpose of layers when discussing waders? Some waders talk about 5-layers (orvis endura), 3-layers (simms freestone), double layered knees, etc, etc, etc....

What does all this mean in a nutshell? Mtnman seems to think it has to do with puncture/abrasion resistance. I think that and also maybe help with warmth.

While on the subject, has anyone had any experience with Dan Bailey waders?

Well, Mtnman has it right on abrasion.

Warmth in breathable waders is created with layering underneath them. One should never wear cotton garments underneath a breathable wader.

What makes you hot or cold is moisture against your skin. If you wear cotton garments under a breathable wader, the cotton absorbs the moisture and does not allow it to pass through the breathable membrane of the wader.

Layering under a breathable wader should always consist of moisture wicking garments that will pull the moisture from your body and move it out through the breathable wader.
