Default Access to the Dix River

During the fall, I spent a lot of time fishing on the Dix River in KY. As some of you may know, access to this fishery is very limited. In fact, the only way to reach the river is by boat. Fortunately, I was able to gain access to the river through a special friend. However, from his property I still have about a one-mile canoe trip upstream in order to find good trout fishing. The paddling doesn't bother me, but it does take a lot of work to drag the canoe in and out by myself. Plus, I spend a lot of valuable time canoeing in and out (time that could be spent fishing). I noticed that there is a road that comes down to the river just below the overflow area. Does anyone know anything about this road? Would it be possible to get access to the road?

Grousegunner, the road is on private property. Due to trash and abuse by people, the owners do not let anyone use the road any more. We all pay for the ignorance of a few. Due to the palisades, it is very difficult to get to the Dix other than by boat.

Thanks kytroutman! Do you fish the Dix River often? I'm a student at Centre College. So, the Dix is a good choice for me when I don't have the time (or gas money) to get down to the Cumberland.

I wish that the Dept. of Fish and Game could team up with local landowners to provide foot access to the Dix River. This is a really neat fishery. But, I guess part of its charm lies in the fact that it is hard to reach.

Sorry Grousegunner. Travel schedule has kept me away. I usually only fish the Dix a couple of times in the Summer even though I am less than 30 minutes away. This is in large part to the limited access and hating to fight the boat traffic up from Herrington.
