    Default Mannis Creek

I went up to scout Mannis Creek today (based on Sam's description of its location, I'm assuming that's where I was - correct me if I'm wrong based on the attached pictures).

The first picture is of the falls coming down the ridge and running into Little River.

The next shot is a cascade at the top of the falls. Really pretty.

A few shots of the creek moving upstream.

Just a little ways off the creek, there appeared to be the remains of an old homestead in a really nice flat area that seemed to have been cleared at one point. Remains of a chimney:

Couldn't figure out what this was; at first it looked like a tractor seat but I seriously doubt there were tractors way up here on this ridge. Any ideas on this? It was about a foot and half across.

All in all a beautiful day on a new creek - nothing like these winter adventures to keep you stoked for Spring.

that's mannis...and it probably is a tractor seat.....people were very ingenious............remember, that entire are had been logged, so there were some heavy equipment pieces in lotsa unexpected areas.

    Default Thanks....

....for the confirmation, Sam. Any fish in that creek? It's a really great looking little stream.

Great job scouting! The cascade coming down to LR seems like it would be tough to navigate for a trout and with all the logging that was done in the past, its doubtful that many fished survived the parks past. Also given the size of the stream, its probably not much more than a trickle in summers in good years, let alone in dry years. Its probably a bit like the upper portions of Rabbit creek.

All that being said, its always amazing to learn the small gem streams that carry fish! It would be great if it did.

i think meigs creek has better potential....and it easier to get to.....tho, you can come back into mannis from meigs mtn trail...accessed from curry mtn trail.....which makes only the old road grade a challenge due to blow downs, rhoddies, and dog hobble...and general unuse

    Default Leaping Brookies!

Somehow there got to be brookies (reportedly) above Meigs Falls and Laurel Falls. How did those buggers get up there? Maybe instead of frogs falling from heaven, the Smokies had brookies raining down?

I still want to see brookies in both those streams - they can also get down to a trickle in the Summer months.
