Default Rod/Reel too hot or cold?

Does anyone know if it's unhealthy to leave your rod/reel out in extreme heat or cold? Will temperature affect your equipment at all?

hmm, i've had reels freeze in the winter & reelseats fall off in the summer, with a good fly line costing $60, no worries if they melt
It is against the law to leave a kid unattended in a vehicle to, i guess what i'm trying to say, equipment deserves better care as well.

I have a question related. My reels have been exposed to freezing conditions while camping this winter. Could my fly line have frozen? I went to fish the next day and it was broken and cracked all along the first 10 feet or so.

That is certainly possible, ACinEastTN. If water got between the core and the coating of the line and then it froze, the water would have expanded and cracked the plastic coating.
