Today is the first day of the 2010 fishing season!

There's not enough 2010 to get revenge on all the picky trout that outsmarted me in 2009! Good luck with that, rivergal. I'm going to focus on those that haven't seen me yet and hope they're dumber than the ones I saw last year.

Time to make resolutions, tying flies, and hash over memories. I spent yesterday going over my fishing log and pic's of last year's fishing with my brother. I'm waiting on notification about a camp ground hosting job in Wyoming next summer. Stopped in LRO yesterday, picked up some 030 lead free and "stuff: to tie some huge salmonfly nymphs and dries. I've got an idea on bush wacking into an lightly fished section of the Yellowstone below the Lamar.

I spent New Year's Day the way I have for the past few years - fishing. The Clinch was pounding down water, as was the Cherokee. So I headed up to Tremont against my better judgement. I figured a couple big nymphs was as good a choice as anything, but this was about fishing rather than catching - more a chance to reflect than anything.

I ended up having a pretty good day - 4 hooked and 3 landed in about 2 hours, before I got cold enough to call it a day. 2 of the 4 came to an orange scud tied by the man who made my rod, Dave Norling. I figured it was fitting to catch cold TN trout on flies made to fool trout in cold MN waters.

At any rate, it was a promising beginning to the 2010 fishing season!

This Tennessean turns 65 in 2010. The good news is I can pay a one-time license fee that will permit me to fish the Smokies forever.... but I'll likely break it down into a number of trips.
