This is a good one for those times when you want a minnow pattern that barely suspends below the surface like a rapala. It darts as you strip it looking like an injured fish on the surface. I like to tie them with about 3 wraps of wire to break the surface tension to get it just under the surface down to about 6" deep.
shad colors are great but I like the bass colors also. Fish this like most streamer patterns with a loop knot for great action. Hooks -Gamakasu B10S stingers or SC15 (this one is a 1/0 SC15) wide gaps hooks are best. materials- olive over white bucktail for tail gold Flashabou for flash tail extended an inch beyond the tail white puglisi fibers for body white med estaz for head light green and sepia pantone markers for coloration stick on eyes with goop adhesive for durability. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks good
Do you fish it with a floating line?

Yes, A floating line is recommended. This is one of those pound the bank flies as your drifting along or if you come across bait balls on the lakes with bass busting through them.
here is a short youtube on variations. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOhK8sKTXF4 |

.30 lead wire with about 3 wraps in the center of the shank. just to help break the surface tension when it lands on the water. The backcast slings the water out of the estaz and puglisi fibers so it wants to float too high till it reabsorbs into the fibers.

Gary,
I know this was from years back, but can you tell me what kind of eyes those are on the Murdich minnow. I have red holographic but nothing that looks as good as those. Thank you, Wade |

I bought those from Orvis. They are the 3D Oval Pupil Adhesive eyes. They are about $4 for a pack of 20. Be sure to use something like GOOP to adhere them onto the estaz. The fish will knock them off easily if you just superglue them on.

I was able to pick up multiple sizes of the eyes from a vendor at the Troutfest show in Townsend.
Thanks Wade |
