Here are some recent ties of mine. Been experimenting with wapsi thin skin lately.





Darker colored nymphs




I almost always end up tying a Tellico nymph nearly every time I sit down to tie.


Random foam fly I use in the summer for brook trout.

I really like the first two! I have two-questions if you do not mind sharing the information(?)

1. How are you creating the abdomen gills?
2. Also; are you trying to differentiate the fly from a burrowing or a swimmer?

I am very interested in trying some of the abdomen gills for burrowing flies at certain times of the year. Great looking flies!

Looking good Granny, I like the gills on the nymphs. You are progressing nicely. My only advice at this point would be for you to try and reduce the size of the heads a little. You may be able to do that by switching to smaller thread to finish the head.

Tying in 5-6 strands of floss up near the thorax, then pulling a strand back as I wrap the abdomen. Trim the excess off. Helps to build a wide/flat tapered body also.

I'm lucky just to be able to simulate gills at all, distinguishing between burrowers and swimmers isn't really in my skillset. Also, most of these were done in stonefly colors....so they actually represent nothing more than experimentation with new materials.

If one of these nymphs came to rest next to a live nymph, a fish would laugh and probably poop on mine.
