Default CS 39 Questions

We are headed to CS 39 next week for our third annual backcountry trip. The boys are 13 and 14 now so we are venturing to new sites. I know this site has had bear warnings in the past. Does anyone know of any issues now? Also, is there good fishable water near the campsite? If there are any bear issues, I do not want to get too far from the camp if one of my boys don't want to fish. Lastly, any tips would be appreciated. We have quill gordons, blue quills, bwo's, and yellow sallies for drys and for nymphs, we have pheasant tails, zug bugs, copper johns, and caddis nymphs. We have one fish total in our two trips to date, so it would be great to catch some. Thanks!

Also check out this page - current waterlevels and temps for cataloochie creek.

Of course you can expect the water to be somewhat different at 39, but at least you will have some idea of what to expect.

Never had any bear problems in that area, but the elk sometimes use that campsite and had the area kinda torn up last spring.

NDuncan - I have been reading your reports and they are very helpful, especially the one from October. What would be the best way to reach you? I have PM ability on some other sites if that's more convenient. You can reach me at leeho86@bellsouth.net. Thank you.

Probably my favorite site in the entire GSMNP. Have fun. Oldman can fill you in on anything that I can. I'll likely be up there at the end of April for a night or two. Some mighty fine tasting brooks in that stream.
