Ever since my son turned 16 and got his driver's license and a job, he's not been able to go fishing with me nearly as often. As a result, I've lost my primary navigator. Trying to drive and follow the DeLorme atlas to find the turnoff for a new stream I'm looking for is a real PITA, not to mention hazardous for those around me. Do any of you folks know of a car GPS system that will let you put in your destination or a POI using latitude & longitude coordinates? I have an older model Magellan Roadmate 1412 car GPS, but it wants either a street address, intersection, or something from the built-in POI database as a destination, and that's just not that helpful.
I would like to be able to use Google Earth or various and sundry maps to find the coordinates for a given trailhead or stream crossing, plug that into my car GPS and let it talk me through getting there. Does such a thing exist? Anybody have one?

Look at the new Tom Tom's I think you can enter a Lat Long to get where you want to go.

I have a basic Garmin unit, and can input coordinates just fine. The first time I tried it, I just clicked the cursor on the map where I thought my target location would be, wrote down the lat/long and input thm in the Garmin, and the thing navigated me perfectly.

Which Garmin unit are you using, Stonefly? That sounds like just what I'm looking for. Thanks.

All the Garmin car models should allow you to enter lat and long. And they can be hooked up to your computer to insert your favorite waypoints to them.

OK, so I went to Garmin's website and pulled up the user manuals for several different models and found that they pretty much all do indeed have this functionality. I wonder why none of the salesclerks in any of the retail establishments that I have visited and asked about this knew that? Oh wait, I do know why. Salespeople in the big box electronics stores don't know jack diddly squat about what they're selling. Oh, well. Guess I should have been using Garmin products all along. Thanks, guys, for steering me in that direction.
