Jan here in Kentucky doesn't offer much for fishig even on the rare warm day. I did to to a local lake and shot some photos of the local ducks, geese, and some snow on a local stream. At least it got me out of the house for an hour or so.

Thanks for the compliment. Much appreciated. My kit is below. Still need to fill out with a decent flash and a good Macro lens is still on my wish list.


Nikon D5100.

Ducks and Geese were with a Nikor 70-300 F4.5-5.6

The creek photos were taken with a Nikor 18-55 lens that came with the camera.

I'm still getting used to the outfit. Some of the old photography techniques are starting to come back. With these new D-SLR's it's not quite as easy as "F8 and be there" back in the old days.

Were the creek photos shot full wide (i.e., 18mm), or more towards the 55mm end? Either way, good looking shots.

I'm trying to get used to a new D600. I've got the same Nikkor 70-300 F4.5-5.6, a Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR and a VR Micro NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G (which is really sweet!). I haven't even attempted working with the video side yet, although I'm excited about the possibilities. I need to start carrying the camera around with me more often. The ice and snow presented some views! Another missed opportunity.

Glad to hear you like the 105MM Micro Nikkor. That is one I'm looking at. I need a decent flash and a Micro lens. The 18-55 can focus pretty close, about 8-9" and is "near" macro but it isn't really a macro lens. I had a pretty sweet Nikor Nikor Micro lens back in the 80s (pretty sure it was about 100MM and somewhere around F2.8 or so, maybe even faster, had a huge piece of glass in the front) but sold it a long time ago fo fund some other projects.

Looking forward to seeing some of your shots. I am really liking this 70-300MM lens. Really sharp and light. Guess the plastic body is one knock on it, but the weigh savings is worth it to me, especially if one is hiking and lugging a 4 or 5 pound lens around all day, it gets kind of old.
