Default New World Record Brown Trout????

“Very ugly. Small head, big belly. Just amazing,” is how angler Otwin Kandolf described the monster brown trout that many in New Zealand are referring to as the “submarine trout.”

Otwin caught the 42-pound, one ounce brown trout while fishing the Ohau B hydro canal. Kandolf told 3 News that he cast toward the fish after seeing it feeding on pellets. He landed the “submarine” shortly there after.

The fish measured just over 36.6 inches long and was nearly a foot wide. Its 42-pound weight – established at a butcher shop - easily beats the 41-pound, 8-ounce International Game Fish Association’s record trout caught in Lake Michigan by Roger Hellen.

It is unclear if Otwin will submit his fish to IGFA (there are several conflicting media reports) In some media stories the fish was reported to weigh 45 pounds.

Reports do agree however, that Otwin sent his monster brown Kiwi to a taxidermist to be mounted.

I suppose it's legit although the fish likely only got that big by eating fish food pellets washed down from the salmon farm.

That is a big brown.

It is very difficult for them to get that size without a constant high-protein diet and expending minimal energy. It would be interested to know how old that fish is believed to be...
