Default brookies!

the brother in law was wanting to get into some brook trout, since we didn't catch any when we were camping a few weeks ago. so we headed to his favorite brookie stream way up in the smokies and finally found some, and some little rainbows as well. the water was cold and a little bit low, but the fishing was very good. we both caught plenty but the bigger ones were hard to come by. the smallest ones were very dark in color today. they were eating both dry flies and terrestrials.

Nice report. Thanks for posting

Glad you found better water. I had a conversation with Stana Claus at a TU meeting several months back where he was describing the headwater stream in your last post. His opinion didn't seem to be very favorable either, and I would suspect it was two trips in one for him (First and last)

And while my report from today was the exception, I have been catching way too many smaller fish this year also. I've had many days where bigger fish could just not be had. I believe the size bump we got from the drought years are gone, and I know of 3 other Smies fisherman that seem to agree that the fish are smaller this year (Brookie streams not Browns in LR)
