Talking Best numbers all year

Tuesday and Wednesday I was able to stay at a forest service cabin on Santeetlah lake with the family. On the drive back I told the wife to enjoy herself on Thursday and to get her errands done and to relax.

Then Nathan texted me if I was free to fish Thursday

Being the devious fisherman I am, I quickly worked out a plan to appease the wife and still hit the river.

I picked up Nathan at 11 and we headed up to the Smokies. After a quick stop at LRO for some frogs fanny we were off to the trailhead. As we were dressing a fisherman was walking up in the direction we were headed. I asked where he was going and how long he would be fishing so we wouldn't spoil each others day. He said he was staying down low and was just fishing for a couple hours. I told him we were going way up and assured him we would give him fresh water. Just as we started hiking we an into another fisherman who said he didn't have all that much luck, but was fishing really low. We told him to hike up further next time and he should have more luck.

As we hiked in I started running into multiple spider webs and after 3 or 4 in a row figured the other fisherman had obviously already dropped in. It was starting to get hot and I really felt like the hike was kicking my butt. Luckily for me Nathan was feeling it too. After he had a good day with good sized Brookies far up the week before, that's where we were headed.

Here is the spot where we started fishing. I think it's a spot not too many people even make it up to. There was easily 6-8 hours of fishing downstream where we passed beautiful pool after beautiful pool.

You know it's gonna be a good day when your fishing buddy already lands double digits before I could even get rigged up.

They were taking the dropper and dry. Nathan found a salamander to play with. Luckily he didn't listen to our ex game warden Indian buddy who told us to use them as bait

You know its a good day when you catch a double

Stream view

Got a bit tighter as we worked upstream

Nathan landed the prettiest fish of the day. Have to show 2 shots - one isn't enough

I was catching some nice fish as well. And glad to finally be catching multiples out of a pool.

We eventually hit the confluence where the stream does a 50/50 split. I thought I saw the ghost of StanaClauses grand pappy, but it turned out to just be a bird

Nathan had yet to fish the headwaters stream and quickly bagged a Brookie and added another creek to his list

While we achieved our goal of where we wanted to go, it was quite a bit later that we expected and were now running late to the TU meeting

It took me a minute to find the manway which always puts bad thoughts in your head as your surrounded by rhodo, but we quickly backtracked and figured it out. In the first mile it was pretty thick. Here was a good spot. If you don't see the trail don't go here

Nathan and I were both feeling it on the way out. Nothing like the Smokies to put a good A** whooping on you

We just beat the storm and made the last half of the meeting scarfing down food and drink trying to recover.

Mac I hope you have been working out cause your gonna be sore Sat night

Thumbs up Nice Report - Love the Pictures

Thanks for sharing the report. It is encouraging to see the pictures and hear about the doubles. I must say that stream looks pretty small!

Yes that my standard set up 6 months of the year. Last year I changed it up with using a small yellowhammer dropper, but have since run out and am back to the weenie
