Default 5/26/14 Exploring my study area

So I decided on a solo trip into the back reaches of one of the streams for which I and some colleagues have a study permit for water quality and invertebrate health, which of course meant fishing....

Mostly smaller rainbows, however in years past I have caught some very nice sized ones as well

not too shabby:

Imitator Salamander

I took several shots of this guy, the biggest of this species I have seen

This area is also home to some larger animals, like one who made this tree his own personal scratching post:

This strainer pile made a nice larger size pool, but it isn't going to be around much longer is it gets a really good rain:

The hike out: (can you see the path)

Ok, Ok... if you got that one, good for you. How about this one?

When I got back to the main 'trail' I almost stepped on this guy:

He did not flinch move or anything the whole time i walked near and around him. He had a good ambush spot and he wasn't about to let me give him away!

Can't to go back. Or to pull cross country permits to spend an extended period on another stream under the permit that needs to be studied in detail!

Nice pics! I don't like the looks of "Mr No Shoulders" though :-)

Not to sound stupider but, "invertebrate health, which of course meant fishing" I thought fishing meant fishing, and invertebrate health is something I don't know because I don't know any. Maybe I'm wrong or am I right I'm wrong?

Anyway, nice pictures. Thanks for sharing.

That's what our research permit is for. The exploratory trip meant I might as well fish while I am scouting.
