In the FWIW category, the Rock Creek mentioned above happens to be a real nice little trout stream , today, in whatever state of water issues exist , as l suspect Kytroutman knows.
Joe,
I hope you did not take my reply as being condescending. I posted this topic to help us (fellow fly fishermen-conservationist) openly discuss each other's ideas and opinions. I grew up in Lake City and many of my family and friends were supported by the coal mines growing up. It was necessary and continues to give us many rewards. However; there are many problem areas left over from pre-70s legislation that hamper our watersheds and wildlife. This biggest problem with Coal Creek right now is E.Coli from inadequate treatment plant and many homes that dump right in to the creek. Plus, it continues to be a trash dump for Briceville and Fraterville. The big issues lie in the high flows that disturb previous AMDs in the system. Also; there are several old mines in the area that are draining in to the water system indirectly. I can take you up to Briceville and Fraterville and show you some specific areas if you are interested one day.

The big issue to me and only reason I posted this topic is to work together at continuing to make improvements on the efforts already in play. Additionally; there are some other reasons involved that will soon come in to play involving the Coal Creek Watershed that will mirror these type of issues.

Friendly debate is good in discussing these type of issues. I appreciate your input and any others that post a reply!

"Rock Creek mentioned above happens to be a real nice little trout stream". It is Joe, along with Shillalah, Dog Slaughter and Bark Camp Creek in SE/Eastern Kentucky. Also nice fishing in the Red River Gorge area, if you can tolerate the snakes.

"Nothing with the government moves at a fast pace, it takes years from the start of the EIS process to final project completion. The Big South Fork is just finishing up a project to plug and reclaim 20-30 abandoned oil and gas wells. As best I can remember the EIS for that project was started about 10 years ago."

Should have attached it to the "Affordable Healthcare Act" if you want to see fast!!!

Default Wild SideTV-The Obey River Video

This is a great informative reclamation story about the Obey River. It is worth the short length to watch.
