Default Sink tips for the smokeys?

Because I am still on the mend from a old man trying to play soccer. I have been rereading some of my GSM fly fishing books. In one the author suggests to use a sink tip line. How do you all feel about this? I personally have never used one. Do they cast the same or do you need a slower action rod? My farorite rod right now is a orvis tls 5wt tip flex which might be a little too fast for a sink tip. I am thinking about looking at a tfo finesse 4wt 7'6 just for the Smokeys. Is there a advantage in using a sink tip? And so what line do you all recomnend. I know there are differant rates of sink but I can only afford to buy one.
