Default Little River Chapter TU

Question for you guys who might know. *I was looking at making the donation to our local chapter and becoming a member! *I read it the other night half asleep. *I wanted to head up to the mountains to assist or at least observe some of the electroshocking, surveying, and get into some of the stream management aspects of trout. Is this a perk to becoming a member?*Aside from volunteering my time to do something good for the sport I'd probably pick up a thing or two and meet some pretty good people at the same time! *My father and I always head up to Townsend for the LRTU anual event. *Usually pretty nice little event!

Thanks in advance,
Fishermansfly

This is a fantastic chapter of TU. My membership is there and in 30+ years as a TU member, I have never been a part of a TU chapter that actually does so much "field work". The stream testa, shockings and even the trash cleanups are enjoyable and yes you will learn something. One thing to remember too, even though you may live somewhere else, there are matching funds to the local chapters for these activities. Not to take away from other chapters but LRCTU is a "working" chapter for TU.

Don't forget about the acid deposition sampling that takes place every other month. *The next one scheduled is Jan. 20th. *A great excuse to get into the mountains for a good cause and still have time to fish. *If interested, contact Jim Parks at jim_parks@comcast.net * He'll hook you up.

I just joined this chapter. If you go to the little river chapter website and join from there you can join TU for only $17.50, $15.00 of that is sent directly to the Little River Chapter. If you join through TU's website without going through Little River Chapter's website it cost $35 to join, although you do get a "free" book that way.

I encourage all those out there that have been considering joining to go ahead and join the Little River Chapter and let's get to work.

I joined at Troutfest last year, but could not attend meetings because I was finishing my Master's degree on Thursday nights. I'm done with that now and hope to start getting to the meetings soon...

I was one of the original 14 members and served as the Chapter's first President for 2 1/2 years. That was around 15 years ago. The Little River Chapter works directly with Steve Moore and Matt Kulp on all fisheries projects in the park. Steve is in charge of the fisheries department. He and Matt both have graduate degrees in fisheries biology. If you like fishing in the Park and want to support the fisheries department you should join. You will also get an education in fisheries management.

Kevin!

Maybe I see you this month at TU in Maryville, I used to go once in a while a few years back then I switched to the Hiwassee Chapter in Athens TN. I have a few good friends down there still but it is too far to drive. I have made a personal decision to start attending in Maryville more regularly and hopefully be able to volunteer for some programs. I think the next meeting is Jan, 25th.

I'm supposed to be in Alaska on the 25th. It seems like something always comes up. I feel really good about Febuary, but March I'll be in Alabama. It would be nice to just sit around and chat for a while...

Kevin, PM and give me some more info. I was planning on fishing the baby shoe on Abrams this spring before the crowds. I was hoping you had some free time March/April.
