Default Fishing in March

My buddies and I are planning a Smoky Mountain outing the first weekend of March.
Any thoughts on the fishing in the park at that time? I assumed it would be warming up by then, but I guess it is also a wait and see.
Either way...I'm going fishing...dog gone it!!!

Take care out there.

Deedub,

March? 50/50 chance of good/inclement weather. But when you are talking about mountain weather- You just never know.

Keep your rain jacket close.

Good Luck- DryFly

That could be a great time depending on the weather. If it has started warming up, the spring hatches should be starting. If it is warm for a few days and the hatches start, you can expect the usual early brown stoneflies, Quill Gordons, Blue Quills, BWO's, etc.

First weekend of March? - The way the weather has been around here this winter it wouldn't suprise me to see a foot of snow, or 80 degrees & sunny. Just hope for the best, but plan for the worst. I would think that all in all it ought to be pretty decent fishing! Good luck.

I did the same week(end) last year. The catching was terrible, but the fishing was great! I'm embarassed to say how many fish actually were caught (you could count on one finger), but we had a blast. It was cold, and the fish weren't biting, but we had a blast. (well, maybe they were, but we sure didn't know it.)

Bottom line...you can't beat being in The Park. Having a rod in your hands is a win-win; you're either engrossed in fishing and catching or engrossed in fishing and the unparalelled beauty.

If you must catch a lot of fish to have a good time, you could pick safer bets. If that time just works best for you, bring it! With open eyes, ears, nose, mind, you and your buddies can't go wrong. If you happen to catch one of the aforementioned warm spells, I understand it's great, and so much the better!

Tie some size 10 quill gordons or a size 10 adams and hope for warm weather a few days before you get there, then hold onto the rod!

Okay Russ! I'm sitting here at work looking at a picture taken March 12 last year on Abrams. You took the picture and then disappeared. Where are you man? All jokes aside. Are you going to be able to fish with me this season more than once? Give me a holler.
