Spent Sat. morning at Elkmont, fished below the campground for an hour then headed up Little River trail until 11:30. Enjoyed the morning but no fish. Nothing on dry flies and little on nymphs. After lunch headed down to Townsend fishing likely looking spots that weren't full of tubers' cars. Where do all these folks come from? And where are their brains? Wait, I think I know,....
Met one couple, in a curve, walking, side by side. Since they took up most of the road, I had to go into the incoming traffic to keep from hitting them. Another young man decided to turn around in the road, blocking both lanes. Luckily I have good brakes since there was no shoulder to pull around him. Luckily the people behind me had good brakes. I finally found an empty hole and fished for 30 minutes or so, catching 2. I had worked my way to the head of a run and was ready for the pool which had good flow and looked promising. About that time a mom, dad and kid popped over the bank, pulled off their shoes and hopped in the water. They said they had been hiking and their feet hurt. They asked a bunch of questions about fly fishing. I didn't get mad because they were so friendly and had no clue they had just spooked any trout in that pool. Drove to Tremont gravel road but the water was warm and low. Decided it was time to quit. Going home today. Will be back in 3 weeks if work isn't too bad. I need to retire and fish more! |

Barbara,
Were you and your husband coming down the trail close to the bridge above Tremont Sunday around lunch?

Sam,
That is a deal, $10 for lifetime pass. Makes my hubby want to live longer to get his money's worth. We hope to be in Townsend in August if work cooperates. Will stop by GWC. I really want to fish Greenbrier. We stay in Townsend. If the kids have gone back to school, hopefully, the traffic will be less in August. How long will it take to drive to Greenbrier area? Barbara, from Townsend to Greenbrier will take about 500 hours...
![]() OK, maybe that's a bit of a stretch. I think its about 30 miles from Townsend to Pittman Center on US321 (the entrance to the Greenbrier section of the park). If you do it early enough in the day you can make it in 45-50 minutes. If you attempt it midday (or on the wrong day) it could take almost 2 hours (I know this from painful experiences). The stretch from the Sugarlands center through G'burg onto US321 is the problem. That two or three mile section is a killer. Go early and you should be fine. Its a great place. |

I, foolishly, thought I could get through G'burg to Greenbrier on Memorial Day... 500 hours is a bit on the low side as I am still stuck in traffic!!
