Default Backpacking Goal

I WILL BACKPACK AND CAMP EVERY TRAIL IN THE GSMNP! That is my goal before I die, now what I would like to know is about how many are there? How long will it take? Will I become a famous person, like first guy to walk all trails in life time, or someone write a book on me? That would be cool! I have been on a bunch of day trails, and two overnighters, but I know I have a ton more to go.

Thanks,
Giantfish

Check out this ladies site: http://www.angelfire.com/freak2/kris...tpounding.html

She has hiked all 900+ miles of the GSMNP and has chronicled her experiences on her site. It's a good crossreference for backcountry fishing when considering what trails to take, how dificult they are and what kind of condition they were in when she hiked them.

Here is the the list of known 900 milers: http://members.aol.com/gs900miler/members.htm

Another challenge you might enjoy is the SB6K: http://www.carolinamtnclub.com/SB6K/SB6K%20Index.html

Gaintfish we need to sit down with a trail map and highlite all the trails we have been on. Over the years since you we little we have been to most of the water falls on the Tennesse side. We have done most of the eaiser trails also. Just guessing I would say that you have around 150-200 miles already. our problem is that we have done about 80% of the loop trails and the trails we have not hike take two cars to shuttle form trail head to trail end. When both of us get healthy again and have no broken bones we will do more back country camping.

Default Hike Every Trail

Giant Fish,
That sounds like a lofty but attainable goal. Be persistent and you will succeed!
Good luck!
John
