Heading to Turks for spring break, 1st week in APR. Anyone have any idea abt trying to flyfish there? Also, just bought 9 ft 8 wt Orvis mid-flex for this trip, and am wondering abt over-lining with 9 wt line? Do so with my bass rod, a 9 ft 7 wt, but is faster/stiffer rod. Will the mid-flex load OK in the saltwater with 8 wt line? Any info on guides? Any help appreciated. Watson

I don't think I would overline a mid-flex rod especially for saltwater fishing. You might want to overline a tip flex rod so you can make shorter casts but I've found that a medium action rod works best with the line size the rod is designed to cast. But I may be different from other anglers so chime in.

If you are going to Provo i would get with Aurthur Dean at Silverdeep, www.silverdeep.com. Spend a day with him and then you can even rent a skiff and find the places yourself. I would only go if you can get Authur as your guide. My last trip there was with one of his juniors. there were 3 of us so we took a larger center console out to the flats. we waded for about 3 hours and then headed to the boat to move on. The tide went out and left us stranded so we were stuck for about 2 hours until another boat could come pick us up.
Even if you cant fish while there the diving is amazing. |
