Default Goin to the Smokies, 1st timer!!

Me and a couple buddies are going back-country camping this weekend above Elkmont. We are planning on starting our hike around 1 or 2 on Friday (in the rain..) and camping until Sunday. Its all our first time fishing the smokies.. We are getting pretty pumped! Does anybody have any last minute advice to give us?? We are all first timers to the Smokies and really our main goal is to not get eaten by bears..

Thanks,
Ryan

The river may be alittle high after all this rain but still good. Don't worry about the bears.......most are still in there dens....course the ones that are out are starving!!!! LOL!!!! I would put my food up high just to be on the safe side. More for the coons than bears really. Good luck with the fishing.

If I had to go with one fly, it would be the reliable Parachute Adams in a size 14 or 16. I would fish it where the fast water meets the slow water, and I would pay particular attention to the "corners", or the areas of a pool just adjacent to the main flow at the heads of the pool. Above all, keep your rod high, and try to keep as much leader off the water as possible - drag is a killer.

Its unlikely you will see many folks at all up that far...If it rains you may not see many after the first mile above Elkmont...Don't worry about the bears, but keep your food up high...and have fun, regardless of how many fish you catch.

Default Need advice quick!

Our trip for this weekend is looking like it may be a wet one! I was needing advice from you regulars at the park on what to do.. I was wondering how the camping would be in "wet" weather near campsite 30. Does all the trees tend to keep alot of the water from hitting the ground? We will be driving 2 hours just to get there and then walking for xx hours. I know this trip could be great if mother nature would just let it be sunny! What do you guys think?? Are we going to get soaked.. Is the water going to be up too high to fish.. What should we do??

Thanks,
Ryan

if we get the weather predicted, the water will be high and fast and dangerous.
