Default Extra Spools

I'm thinking about buying an extra spool loaded with sinking line for streamers. Does anyone else do this? Or is it something I should even bother with?

it's cheaper than another reel

You just need to be sure your rod will handle the extra weight of the line & a bil 'ol weight streamer

I carry an extra spool with a 200 grain line with me when wading tailwaters and all warm water rivers with at least my 6wt. If I'm floating I have 2 rods rigged, one with a floating and the other with the sinking line. If you are serious about streamer fishing, you definitely need several lines to be able to fish effectively and its much cheaper and lighter to have extra spools rigged.
If you only fish mtn streams no need to carry around extra spools. just my opinion of course.
