Default Little River in Townsend

Dear wife and I are planning a first week of June trip to Townsend, and will be staying at campground on the river in town. I plan on fishing the park, and will have two 16 year old boys with me. One is experienced flyfisher, the other is not. Since licenses will be required for them, I am not sure whether to purchase a license for them to fish the park only, or to purchase the TN trout water license (much more expensive), which allows fishing in park and TN trout water. I'm thinking they may want to fish for stockers in town also, if available.
My questions are:
1) Do they stock trout in the Little River thru the city of Townsend?
2) Will the water be too hot in town for trout at that time of year?

Thanks,

David

I think they stock the Little River every Thursday during the summer. You will want to buy the TN license and the trout license if for no other reason than when the two sixteen year old boys want to get away from the "old folks" and they have already chased all the 16 year old girls in the campgrounds, fishing will be the only get away for them.

David,

TWRA usually stops stocking in July or August due to warm water. Usually June is fine. But, the way things have been lately you never know. I would make that decision when it's closer to your trip. The water temperature at the "Y" is posted on our Fishing Report every morning. Check there. If it's close to 70 degrees you will need to fish up higher in the Park.

Thanks for your replies.

Buzz : You make a very good point.

Byron : I enjoy reading your Fishing Report. I'll pay particular attention to
the water temperature. I am looking forward to my first non-virtual visit to LRO!

Wynn : Thanks for the info.

Another question: I normally fish the south (NC) part of the park, so I have a non-resident NC license with trout. It is my understanding that I can fish anywhere in the park (including the TN side) with this license. Is this true?

Yes, one may fish either side of GRSM with either a TN or NC license
