I have a friend coming into town late October, so I would like to really get into some fish and maybe learn a few things myself. Anyone have a recommendation and a phone number?

There are a couple of good shops with guides in Nashville, but I don't know if I should mention them on the LRO board.

Mr. Mike:
Blue Raider is right ; there are a couple great guides in Nashville. I would spend days on the river without catching- finally made guide investment and it paid dividends. I can tell you I am partial to one guy. Maybe Byron will pass along his info. PS I finally decided to quit being a lurker- first post |

His name is Grumpy, and you can find him on this board, or at Cumberland Transit on West End and 28th in Nashville. If anyone feels that I have violated any rules, then feel free to delete my account.

I'd say give Grumpy a call! Super shop, super guy.

I would contact Jim at FlySouth if I was looking for a guide on the Caney. Jim and his crew have been there for as long as anyone. Another to look at would be Chris Nischan (sp) from what I hear he is good as well.

Yeah, if your going to be in Nashville, FlySouth is the best IMO. They have a HUGE supply of tying materials and a lot of nice gear. If you are in East Tennessee though, go to LRO. I always go to the mom and pop places. No Bass Pro for me unless the others don't have what I need.

LRO is the only option in East TN IMO, as most know I was a loyal Creel person. I dearly miss the days of yorn, and miss having a great shop so close to my driveway.

This guide doesn't have a fly shop, so I don't think this is a conflict.
Mike Anderson @ trophyfishingtn.com. He knows the river intimately and has an excellent boat for that river. Not a drift boat though. I hear nothing but good about Grumpy as well, though I haven't fished with him. Best, John |
