Default New Orleans

I posted earlier today looking for a guide in the Gulf Shores area, well now I may have an opportunity to go to New Orleans before Gulf Shores. Can anyone recommend a good guide in the New Orleans area?

Thumbs up A bit South of NOLA....but

Mic, Check these guys out...they are based in Buras, LA (1-1.5 hours) down the river. I have taken customers down three times (2 conventional light tackle, 1 fly) they are tops!!!! Guides, accomodations, food...off the hook no pun intended.

Also do a check on griffen guide service in lafeyette. I know I have used them for the last 3 years and they are supper. great price and wonderful accommidations. Also they always catch fish. Never have I been skunked down there. They are about 30-45 mins from new orleans. They are great.

There are a lot of good guides covering the Southeast Louisiana marshes; I would recommend Captain Charlie Thomason, who operates out of the Hopedale area in St Bernard Parish, just southeast of the city: his web site is www.CaptCharlie.com. Even though I have my own boat, and I've fished the St Bernard marshes quite often, I've always learned something on the two trips I have taken with him. No matter who you go with, the key is, if you're from out of the area, is to get a guide, if for no other reason that it is incredibly easy to get lost out there.

When are you going to be down here? Right now isn't the best of times, with the cold fronts coming down every few days and the windy conditions. In order to catch them right now, you're pretty much confined to bouncing jigheads tipped with plastics off the bottom. The speckled trout start turning on in late April, and from May on is dynamite. The reds in the marsh are great too...probably the best time for them is in the Fall.

I have fished with Capt. Rich Waldner and would recommend him to anyone. He works from dawn to dusk and is a pleasure to fish with. He is based in Port Sulpher which is about 45 minutes south of New Orleans. If he is unavailable I would call Uptown Angler, the fly shop in New Orleans, and see who they recommend.

Rich can find big fish and plenty of fish. Just do a google search and it will take you to his website. Good luck and let us know how the trip goes. There is truly no place like the marsh in that part of the world.
