thinking of getting the Sage ZXL rod kit to build. I've always wanted a Sage rod (dont' know why) so I thought about building the 7'6" 3wt.....
My question is has anyone here played with the zxl yet and what are your thoughts as a small stream rod ? God Bless & Good Fishing Bob

I was at the shop on Sunday and cast several rods one being the ZXL. I really liked the action of this rod. I was casting a 9' 5wt so its alot more powerfull than the 3wt would be but it depends on what type of action you are looking for. Its pretty fast. Not as fast as the Z-axis, but its listed as a Medium action, but was still pretty fast. It was considerably faster than the Winston LT. But none the less felt great, light and smooth. For what its worth I was super impressed with the Sage VT2. It had a great feel and smooth cast, if you had hid the price tag I would never have guessed it was a mid price rod. It said to be a Med/Fast but didnt seem much faster than the ZXL. Dont know if that helps but at least you will waste some time reading this

I have fished a 4wt 8ft zxl on several occasions in the smokies. It is a fantastic rod. I agree it is a faster medium rod, but very smooth and accurate. I also always wanted a sage and this was my first. It has become my favorite.
