Default August bassin on a full moon

Had a really slow day of catching this morning. I was on the river before daylight hoping to find some smallies hitting topwater in the shallows before the sun got high. I've never been one to follow the moon phases but the last couple of times that I have fished during a full moon time period, it as been very slow. Anyone plan their trips around moon phases or like me, you fish when you can and hope for the best?
I fished from 6am till 11am and caught 4 little smallies (12" and under) and a couple of little redbreast. I enjoy any time I can get out on the water these days so no complaints from me! Anyone else have a tough day on the rivers today and if so, do you think the full moon had anything to do with it?

I don't specifically plan around the moon phases for the most part but definitely believe it affects the fishing... At least you got out on the stream!

Troutman, I have experience the exact same problem in the last two full moons. Last full moon I had a slow but productive trip but now that august is here and the full moon fishing was rough. A friend and I went to a very good little creek here in alabama yesterday. He caught 1 bluegill and one spot, I caught 1 bluegill all day. The weird thing was we tried deep, shallow and shades but the fish were just not active at all. THe full moon let them feed at a better cooler time all night is all that I could decide. I definately made a big mark on the calander to remind me next august full moon to stay at home.

I used to fish the lakes a lot during the dogs days of summer growing up and my dad and I always did best from about midnight to 3am. Of course we were fishing deep points with plastic worms. I've never been one to follow the solunar tables but went back today and checked the best times for yesterday and it said from about 1-3am. and then again in the mid afternoon.
Sounds like I need to do more fishing (research) on middle of the night wading for bass! something tell me the wife won't be very happy about that.

It was fine yesterday and anymore water levels and weather have a bigger impact on me and where I fish then moon phases. I never worry about it to be honest. I would rather have a full moon and clear sunny skies then clouds, I despise clouds and it seems the river bass do as well from my experiences.

Troutman, try the night. It is a blast. You have seen some of my pics from the night on topwater. I love it you can't see so you rely on hearing and feel. Really puts new tilt on things. Just go to easy to wade place that you know and be careful. I use something you can steadily pull like a slider or mouse pattern. I miss more on poppers than I have ever hooked. Maybe on ponds or lakes where you can hear more you would do better with poppers. I just started last year and love it. This year up till last night has been slow. I got 2 last night one about 17-18in.

If I am planning a trip, and I mean a real trip, I totally plan it around the moon phase. Never have had much luck on the full moon, even night fishing during the full moon I have seen action slow, some would say they feed at night, all I know is a dark moon is a good moon.

Full moon seems to bring me better night fishing.
