Default Camping Near Sugarlands

Isn't there a campsite near Sugarlands or just down the new found gap road from it? I don't see a camp site on the map near there, but I remember seeing one at some point.

BlueRaiderFan, the only camp site I familiar with is Elkmont. I'm not sure if you are looking for a back country site or a general camping site. Elkmont is about 6 miles from Sugarlands. I don't know of any back country sites close. I'll dig my park map out tomorrow and see if I can find you a back country one..............tight lines

Blue Raider Fan--The only campsite on Hwy. 441 in the Park is on the N. C. side (Smokemont). You may be thinking about the Chimneys picnic area, which is a few miles up 441 above Sugarlands. Elkmont is the closest frontcountry campground to Park headquarters. I think you have my book (seem to remember you commenting on it) and if so there's a full list of both frontcountry and backcountry ones in Appendix 6. Jim Casada

Long ago the Chimney's Picnic area used to be a front country campground as did the picnic area in Greenbrier....as said the closest site in the Park to the Sugarlands is Elkmont and the backcountry sites up the Little River Trail above Elkmont.
