I have just got into fly fishing big time! I went and got me a new rod and reel setup 8wt. and a vise with all of the tying material. I was looking into striper fishin. I was wondering what time of year you could catch them close to top water cause right now i can only afford a floating line and im not asking for anybodys honey hole but could some one tell me some good places to try around middle tn. I live exactly in between nashville and knoxville. I appreciate any advise cause I have only caught a couple stripers on a spinning reel below the coal plant in kingston. Thanks, Bronzeback

Orvis makes a tip that you can attach to your float line that sinks. I think it's just a few dollars. I know stipers make a run on the Stones River. I think it's in March.

The Cumberland River has stripers. Joey Monteleone may be a guide. He has written magazine articles about striper fishing in the Cumberland. Contact one of the fly shops in Nashville to see if they have a phone number for him.
