Default Canoe Anchor System

I'm researching ideas for an anchor system for my canoe. Is there anything better out there than just running a rope through some guides or pulleys to the bow wher the anchor rests? Anybody have any ideas on this?

A rope wrapped around a forward thwart with a brick paver or sash weight has always been a good system for me. If there is too much current for me to anchor midship, then I don't need to be anchoring in that location.

I use three or four old Scuba weights (2 lbs. each) tied to narrow cotton rope.

I think that Derek has some good ideas. mounting the anchor in such a way that he did would make sure the boat stays straight if your in any kind of current and would keep the deck clear of line grabbers. The use of chain covered with bicycle tube and duct tape for quietness is the way to go for anchoring or just maintaining a straight track while drifting. I just have a hard time drilling holes in a boat!
check out his mods.

Great ideas fellas, thanks! Never thought about using chain but I guess that would work well. I'm not much on putting holes in a boat either. Thanks again for the ideas.

Default Anchor System

A good friend of mine owns two canoes and has had others throughout his life. He is an experienced boater and he recommends an old window weight, which can be found in some antique stores. Apparently the weights do not get hung up on the bottom and the weight is just about right for a loaded canoe. Just something to think about.

Hope this helps,

Great idea. I'll keep my eyes open for those.
