Default Washington State

Headed up to Olympia, Wa in September and want to get in a day or two of fishing. Anybody have any experience there? Would like to find a technical mountain trout stream in the NP or national forest. Any good water?

Default Fishing Olympic Peninsula

Don't know whether you've gotten info or not yet on Washington. It's been a while since I was on this board. I had the opportunity to fish there in June of 08. It was quite the experience. Summer Steelhead were in season and I hooked up with a guy there who was from NJ and doing the same thing. We fished the Skykomish where he actually caught a nice steely and the Yakima (cutthroat trout). I fished one of the inlets at Golden Garden Park above Seattle and then I went out on the Penisula and fished the Hoh and the Sol Duck Rivers. Steelhead are a blast if you can coax one onto a fly. There not called "fish of a thousand casts" for nothing though. They are big rivers and water flow depends on when and how big the last rain (a frequent thing) was. There are numerous guides on the Penisula and I would suggest such. I went it alone, but next trip will get some help.
