Default Entomology/Tying Question

After fishing Saturday with my friend Big Popper up at the Chimneys and a bit down at the picnic area, I wanted to ask about the flies that we saw. I saw a nice big yellow fly up at the chimney, maybe a size 12? and then several small flies (size 18-20?) that looked like they had four wings and maybe were medium dun colored. Then we went to the picnic area and saw a hatch of several flies that looked just like the ones that were dun colored, only they were bright yellow like the first big fly. Any idea what we saw? Saw several midges up at the Chimneys, but those I know by heart

Not sure of the big yellow mayfly, but the flies with four wings were stone flies. The yellow stone flies are usually called yellow sallys. Mayflies carry their wings upright, caddis carry their two wings when folded sort of a tent shape and stoneflies with their four wings fold them flat along the top of the body. Hope this helps. Man, those stone flies were tiny. I thought they would be bigger. They were really pretty though. I'm thinking the mayfly was a pale evening dun or PMD...very yelllow and big.
