Default OT..bear near clingmans yesterday

yesterday...ranger drives by convertible parked at trailhead....he looks ...drives by and turns around to verify his vision was ok...gets back to car and there is a bear head sticking out the closed top of the car.....hiker had left car and gone off, leaving food in the back set....bear, having a good nose and some claws, breaks in and is eating the food...ranger calls for assitance...about this time the hiker, having cut his o/n short by a day, comes upon the scene...bear will be relocated...hiker will be reeducated

So are you saying the Park sells bear bait?

Bears are pretty smart I wouldn't put it past this bear to teach his offspring how to cut through the top and get into convertibles. Some others see it, take note, and you have a full on epedimic of convertible slash and grabs going on.

The bears in Yosemite do just this...they teach their cubs about coolers and how to get them....wonder how long it will be before they connect fishing tackle in these cars with fishermen catching fish and try their hand in some of our favorite spots.

I bet that bear has one heck of a "sugar high." Do they get diabetes, I wonder?

There was a pretty brave bear at Deals Gap saturday night. We were holding 50 races (little kid Honda CRF50 dirtbikes that have been extremely modified for big kids LOL) in the parking lot of the Motorcycle Resort. It gets really loud from our performance exhaust pipes in the area when we are doing this. This one bear came out of nowhere and jumped into one of the trucks near the main parking lot, grabbed a garbage bag out of it and took back off into the woods. The amount of people in the area and the loud little bikes screaming through the parking lot sure didn't scare that little bear.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here is a video of a determined bear at Clingmans Dome breaking into a car for food.
