Default Elkmont Camping

Need some help from the forum...I am hoping to go camping/fishing this Monday-Wednesday at Elkmont. I know the campground doesn't open til the 11th officially but was wondering if they offer offseason camping? I tried to find info on this but couldn't. Also, is there a number I need to call or somewhere I need to check in? I've never camped here before. And if camping here is not an option are their any alternative spots? Thanks in advance.

Well, the camping web page at GSMNP site is unavailable as of now.
I believe Elkmont follows the same rules as Smokemont.

At Smokemont, camping is year round. Reservatons are only taken May through end of October. The rest of the time it is first come, first serve. You self check in after selecting your campsite and pay the money ($20/day) for the number of days stay by filling out and dropping the registration slip and money into the campground "mailbox", designated for camping registraion.

If someone knows differently or of any changes to that policy please jump in and make the necessary corrections.

Okay,

Thanks sammyben! I didn't know they had closed it for the winter. I believe when it opens it will still follow the rules I mentioned for off season camping. Called "walkin" camping.
