Cortland has the new "Retro" click/pawl for a whopping $129, lightweight & seems to be built well.

Orvis still lists the CFO and it is a click and pawl reel. In my opinion I think it is still a very nice reel for anyone looking for a lightweight trout reel.

Redington Drift - $100 most places.
Islander IR 1 - $250 Abel TR 2 - $270 Orvis Click & Pawl CFO III - $395 I say the Redington Drift is a no-brainer. It is fully machined and wonderfully finished. It is very comparable to both the Islander IR1 and Abel TR2 for a lot less cheddar. I haven't handled the Orvis CFO Click & Pawl to compare. |

I initially thought the current Orvis CFO's were click and pawl. I now see the only one that is click and pawl is the limited edition. I may be wrong but I thought the older ones were click and pawl.

The older CFO made by Hardy in England was a click/pawl.

See my original message back on 3/24/2011 concerning the click and pawl reels. I was really asking if LRO carried any click and pawl reels or if they could maybe acquire one for me if they did not carry any in the store. My message got highjacked along the way. Thanks for any info...... Jim Jones (LRPop) Auburn, Alabama

To everyone that replied, thanks. But, I went ahead and purchased a Medalist 1492 1/2 since I liked the basic, simple design, etc. of it. I already had the 1492 and liked it so well that I guess that the choice became a no-brainer. I know, I know, that it is considered junk by some of the more sophisticated individuals and they would not consider buying foreign made reels from Asia, but I ain't that wealthy. Again, thanks to everyone for their replies. Jim Jones (Auburn)
