Default smokemont`

The family and I will be staying at Smokemont CG next week, this is our first trip to the Smokies. I should consider myself lucky that my little girls still want to go camping with mom and dad.
My youngest is 22 and her sister is 24. Both will hike, camp and wet a line .

A few questions.

Are bugs a problem this time of year ?
How far can you get cell phone service ?
How far will I have go for a good chance at a Brookie ?

Bugs: A little. You will be at a decent altitude so it shouldn't be too bad. Also, it will be colder at night that you might realize. Bring a blanket for sitting around the fire and buy a little extra wood. I have Verizon and I can't "hear anyone now" once I get about halfway to the campground (or maybe sooner I can't remember). Don't know about the brookies but it's a nice stretch of river and the creek ain't bad either.

I get cell reception at the Collins Creek picnic area, I just drove up there and parked to call my wife.

Not sure about Bradley, but you can catch brooks above Kephardt when Luftee becomes Beech Flats. I am sure there are a few stray ones lower down as well.

Gnats can be a pain but I have personally not had any trouble with skeeters up there.

bugs won't be an issue. a little bug-spray goes a long way for the few that will be around. If you want easy brook trout, I'd drive over the mtn. and down the TN side and fish Walker Camp. Can't get much easier than that.

As for the cell phone thing - maybe I'm just holding my mouth right but last year I called home from my spot around the campfire in the B loop.

Green weenies. bring some. Have fun!
