I took the past week of and managed to get some tying in. Kind of went on a popping bugs. This is the batch I produced.
I did quite a bit of experimenting with color and paint. What's your favorite pattern? I would like to see others patterns posted. ![]() |

Great Job! Do you fish these for trout? If so; how do they do?
I have only used poppers on still-water and they were spectacular.

I mostly use these for small mouth and pan fish. But I am going to try them out on trout. I could see a big brown hitting some of them

Don't have a specific favorite- don't fish them much anymore. I sold sporting goods for a wholesaler many years ago. We carried the Accardo and Betts lines. They were good quality and we sold a lot of them. I would think a small deer hair fly would work for trout. A Humpy comes to mind, also; sort of a popper. FWIW, I caught a trout on a white plastic crappie jig. Tried it for the fun of it.

I did not care that much for poppers until my son and I had a couple of good canoeing trips that produced a lot of fish on poppers. They proved to be a good fly for a youngster. We are looking forward to having fun with them this summer. As a result I felt it was time to learn to make poppers.

My favorite poppers are foam blockheads. Yellow, black, chart. green and white. superlight and great profile. I also like wiggle minnows.

Like the block heads Troutman, they look like they are quicker to produce.
Thanks for the pictures. |

Great Job Redfish62 and Troutman for working on some different angles for flies. I may have to experiment with a few of these as well...
