How often do you change Flyline?

I have not been doing much fishing the last 3 or 4 years. I have some flylines that are perhaps 6 to 8 years old. I clean them with dressing at the beginning and the end of the year and when I fished regularly every 3 or 4 trips. My question is when do you change your flyline and/or your backing?
