Has anyone been fishing the Cumberland recently near Helms Landing? Was hoping to fish next week with my son during spring break.

No I haven't fished it but it is very high. If you don't have a boat I would go to a different place.

I was going to head down there on Saturday but have also heard it is high. I hear a boat is tricky getting in and out of the river right now.
Oh well.

Thanks. I heard from my cousin that the river is almost up to the parking lot at Helms. Oh well.

You can get a boat in at the dam fairly easily. The water is going to be wild but I have fished the river for about 35 years and never had a day that I didn’t catch a few fish. I fish the banks with Panther Martins ¼ oz or 2 to 3 in. sinking Rapalas. If you are a fly fisherman streamers work the same way but not as good. Bait is probably best with power bait. salmon eggs, or crawlers drift fishing on the bottom through the shoals.
Wish I was there |

Has anyone ever stayed at Kendall campground? I'm wanting to take cardfly jr. there for a little campout and fishing trip.

Kendall is an excellent camp ground. I have been camping there for over 35 years. It is located below the dam and you have boat access to the lake and river with no extra fees for campers. The river is very high right now but you can still fish it. Hatchery creek goes right by the camp ground and is good for trout any time.
go to www.recreation.gov for resevations. I think it is first come first serve until May 15. "Good Luck" Paul |

Thanks Paul,
I think we will get down there in May. It looks like a really good place to camp.
