Default Amazing Hatch Saturday - March Brown???

I was on a nice hole on the Little River Saturday around 3:45. There were some several dinks rising to Blue Dunn's when all of the sudden a massive hatch of what I believed to be March Brown's was on. Of course I had every fly in my box but a March Brown. There were about a half dozen very large trout rising so I tried everything in the box with no luck. Originally I thought they were rising to Quill Gordon's but after catching one of the live flies I'm fairly certain they were March Brown's. The hatch lasted for about an hour so you can imagine how frustrated I was with the biggest fish I have ever seen in the park snubbing everything I had to throw at them. I think I went through a dozen different patterns and my leader was actually getting too small from all of the different flies I tied on. If only I had some March Brown's in the box it would have most certainly been the best day of my life in the park. Oh well, I must say that vision of huge fish rising will stick with me for a long, long time and most certainly bring me back again next year. Nothing better even if I didn't catch em!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least you were able to enjoy being on the water when that happened. Now you will never be on the water with less than 5 march browns in your fly box. Byron wrote about the same problem with green weenies, you will have to ask him about it.

Did you try an emerger in a brownish/reddish shade, like a pheasant tail? You will be suprised how often you can take fish on a nymph right on through the hatch.

I had a BHPT on when the hatch first started but took it off when I changed flies the first time. I had great luck last week with droppers and wanted to get these monsters on some dries. Next time I'll have a supply of March Browns for sure.

Default Hidden fish

I never realized how many fish I was missing or how many fish are in those streams until I witnessed a large hatch when the fish were feeding.
