Default Anyone fished the Elk lately?

It looks like I'm going to be in the vicinity Tuesday evening. Has anyone fished the Elk, and how is it doing? I have only fished it once before and was at the first access point below the Dam. Sure could use some advice.

God Bless,
Dances with Trout

We have not fished it lately, but some friends of ours fished it a couple of weeks back and had really good luck. They had stopped generating for a while, but I think they are back on a schedule now so the gunk that was on the river bottom maybe has cleared up. Good luck. Let us know how you do.

Default Elk

Dances with Trout,

I fished it on October 4th. I did not get there until the middle of the day. Fishing was very slow until around 3:00 PM. After that, I caught about 15 fish on a black zebra midge. It was a fun 45 minutes before I had to leave to get home for a wedding.

Default Elk

Dances with Trout, I fished the Elk near the dam about two weeks ago. I use a sz 14 palmer Adams as an indicator fly and a sz 22 grey bead midge. Caught fish on top and on the midge. Also swung a chartreuse woolly bugger with a brown midge. I'm rethinking two fly rigs. Too much foul-hooking of fish and hands. Lots of flies work. The extra flow seems to help fishing nearer the dam. Down lower I'm not so sure. Nice river. You'll enjoy it. Sure Knots, Monktrout
