Anyone know if there are trout in the Piney River, west of Nashville?

I'll echo the smallmouth comments someone made earlier about the harpeth. I've had minimal luck, but it's good for a quick fix every once in a while. Helgrammites fished like you would a nymph work pretty well.

Thanks for the info guys...I do like fishing for warmwater species, but find it somewhat of a challenge without a boat. I've fished Couchville Lake a few times for bass, just walking waist deep along the shoreline, and that was alright. What spots along the Harpeth are the safest to wade and easiest to cast?

Default Piney River

There used to be a few trout in the Piney, and Byron and I, when we were in Middle Tenn Fly Fishers, helped put out Whitlock-Vibert boxes about 20 years ago. Supposedly some of those eggs hatched and survived, though the results were not what everyone hoped for.

The Moran Rd bridge, along Old Natchez, and over at one of the state access points by the Veterans' cemetary, to name a couple of decent access points. Someone mentioned the Narrows in an earlier post, but I've never tried. Another place I've always wanted to try is the state park canoe access off of hwy 100 (or is that 70?).

I've also heard of people having luck on the Little Harpeth as it runs through Edwin Warner. I've fished it, but had no luck.

Also, if you've got the patience, stealth and skill, I've seen some monster carp in all of the above.

I've tossed a couple of flies in the Little Harpeth at Edwin Warner and I've only caught small baitfish...but where there are small baitfish there are bigger fish that eat them...
