Guys,
I caught a picture of this fish last week on the Clinch and its top pattern has me a little confused to the identity... Can someone help me identify this fish? Thanks, CSM http://littleriveroutfitters.com/for...3&pictureid=14

Strange looking... I'd say it's some sort of bass, it can't be a sculpin and no trout are banded like that. Interesting find.

I'm going to guess it is a stocker with an anomoly of a pattern.

Perhaps this is what Byron means when he speaks of "lining the fish"...

Thanks friends... I have numerous pictures of trout and underwater shots and this is the first I have of one with this pattern on the Clinch.
Anyway, I am glad to be a new member of this forum and I look forward to sharing information, thoughts, and pictures with fellow members. Regards, C. Shawn Madison

is that the only band on the fish.... was the fish feeding on the bottom....in NW.PA. where i grew up we had a fish like a sucker that had dark bands on their bodies we called them stone punchers

I believe it has several other bands, one around the gill area and there looks to be another one toward the tail....

I would have to agree that it is a stocker with an abnormality. Sculpins and norhtern hogsuckers have bands like that, but they do not have an adipose fin. The fish in the picture does have an adipose fin, meaning it is either a trout or catfish. Doesnt look like a cat, so its a weird stocker. I have caught stocked trout with all kinds of weird black blotches like that

Thanks All for the replies.
By the way; I took this picture about 300 yards below Miller's Island if that helps clarify any similar sightings.
