Tying Midge Pupas

I was wanting to know everybodys thoughts on using vinyl wrap for their midge pupas. I like to use vinyl because it allows me for easy buildup and minimal thread use. It also gives it a good segmentation. I have just recently started tying with vinyl and havent got to fish these midges. (Im 15 and have to go to school)

Looks really good to me, plus it should be more durable than the thread midges. I used to tie mine with a base of thread in either red or black and then wrap clear midge sized larva-lace over the top. Very durable, and the SoHo browns loved it.

I bought a bunch of colored "beading wire" that's a plastic cord. I got about 10 different colored spools for $6. Makes great midge bodies, and certainly has worked on sizes 18 - 22 for Clinch river trout.

Also you can get a material at Joann Fabric called "Sulky Holoshimmer" that's a mylar thread. I use that for an underwrap and then put the plastic cord over the top. Really great little flashy midge.

Very nicely done Trout Slayer. Midges are hard to tie, mostly because of their TINY sizes. I generally use vinyl rib on my midges, but moose mane or stripped peacock herl works very well to establish those segmented bodies on these guys. You can also use copper wire in midge sizes...
