Intermediate lines

Anyone use an intermediate line at all? A friend and I fished with Davy Wotton a couple of years ago, and he had me use an intermediate briefly with traditional wet flies. My knowledge of fishing wets calls for mending, which an intermediate doesn't do so well. Anyway, I'm wondering what situations would call for an intermediate, thinking maybe still water ?

I mend just fine with an intermediate. Presentation is a tad difficult, but too bad.
