oh man! that is some awsome pics of the old spec trout! thanks for posting up some pics CB. They remind me of home. I'm planning to get back that direction for some saltwater fishing this summer. Thanks again!

Yea i love it down there. It is such a different environment, and game, i really love going down to Charleston to fish. How great to live in the Mts and be 4 hours or so from the ocean! Where is home for you??

Nice speck, I loved catching them on the OBX. Where do you put your yak in around Charleston? Do you know anything about Freshwater Fishing in the River around Monck's Corner? My son works at the Old Santee Canal Park and has kayaking access points in the area, but doesn't fish. I'm not interested in the lakes but would like to try some of the "wilder" areas.

Heck yea I know about the freshwater! Man I can tell you a good bit about the cooper river, my folks have a house there, LOTS of rice fields that are flooded perfect for a yak and the pre-spawn bass get huge...but so do the gators, less than about 7 feet no real problem they want as little to do with you as you them, over 7 foot lets just say they know where they rank on the food chain and it is above you and me! As far as the salt, there are a bunch of put in spots one nice one is on Sullivans Isle, i can give you further detail you want, you got IOP marina, Marina at the Boathhouse restraunt, you got copahee sound access and Paradise Isle landing, quite fishy spots. If you go down let me know and we can chat about specifics etc, also patterns for the salt. Charleston Angler is a good resource, a shop that has 3 locations down there. I am headed down the end of this month can't wait cuz its getting to be tailing season!

Thanks for the report and pics. The are just fueling my fire.... I will be in the area in less than 3 weeks, and am hoping for some redfish or speckled trout on the fly. We are doing a guided inshore trip one day in hopes of catching some fish for the dinner table. But the guide said that if we want to try for something, including shark, on the fly he is game for that too. That would be quite fun, but I don't have any gear large enough for that.

Cool when are you going down? i am going down 04/24-04/27 Can't wait. Shark on the fly would be fun, I have caught a bunch growing up, nothing like fried up shark bites and a cold beer! Who you going guided with?? If you want some info on good local restraunts or anything just ask or shoot me an email.

Thanks CB. We are going from the 26th thru May 2nd. Don't know the last name of the guy we are going with, just that he goes by Capt. Dave and he is based out of Edisto Island. That is where we are staying, but I imagine we will get out and drive around some looking for good food and some shopping. I do plan to do my fair share of fishing while there, and may even look into renting a canoe/kayak and get back into some of backwater areas in search of reds.

Fried shark bites, huh. I may have to try that if we catch any.
