sink tip, 2-3 in goggle eye in boat below lock and dam when they are generating with all gates open. Drift fishing. My goal is to get the Mississippi record cats for all three species this summer.
If they are biting really good you can catch blues if you can get a clouser below the school of shad. It's a lot tougher than it sounds with the white bass run here now. |

Fat Boy Rainbow I caught the week before Troutfest. I was going to wait until the end of the month to see if I caught a bigger one, but it looks like fishing is over for this month with all that "She who must be obeyed"
has planned for me. I was scared to take it out of the net for fear of hurting it with it's own weight, but I think you can get the idea. The Frying Pan model of the Brodin net I am using is a pretty good sized net![]() ![]() ![]()

I was fishing near Latitude: 35.2913 Longitude: -82.77031 standing on a light colored rock about the size of my kitchen table, river left, about 4pm ESDT. I was wearing nothing but my flowered print Speedo and my Smith Action optic sunglasses while working on my tan. Other fishermen generally give me plenty of room when I show up in that Speedo, so I've become partial to wearing one when I fish places that get a lot of fishing pressure
. It was a partly cloudy day and the water was slightly stained from the previous day's rain. I could see the fish winking as he was taking nymphs from the current. He took my Sulphur imitation on about the 3rd or 4th drift. I was using a 9' 5X Rio Fluoro leader with a B split shot about a foot above the fly. I caught it on a Winston BXII with a matching green Galvan Reel and SA #5 nymph taper fly line. I fought the fish for less than 3 minutes. I think because he was so fat he was out of shape and just gave up.![]() Sulphur Nymph Hook: TMC3671 sz 16 Thread: Rusty Brown Uni sz 8/0 Tail: Red dyed Pheasant Tail Body: Red dyed Pheasant Tail Rib: Ultra wire red sz small Wing Pad: Black Goose primary flight feather Thorax: Sulphur orange dubbing your choice this is SLF I think. Legs: Partridge with a V cut of of the tip ![]()
