Default Hiwassee River?

Has anyone fished the Hiwassee River lately? I'm heading over there tomorrow morning.

Tyler,

My buddy Scott was down there all weekend, but he didn't catch anything. He said that he only fished a couple of hours since the water was high and muddy all weekend long. Didn't appear to be much bug activity either. I believe he was in Big Bend area.

Tyler,

Fished it Saturday morning between 7 AM and 11 AM, downstream from Big Bend at the "stairsteps". Caught 13 on EHC size 14 tan.

Travis,

I'm hoping the water is clear and not too high. TVA isn't generating much, if any water tomorrow morning. (unless heavy rain rolls thorugh the area...)

Hans,

I'm fishing from dawn until about lunch time as well. Beating the heat is just about my number one priority tomorrow for me...

I was working there all weekend and the water was fine. Of course they were running the turbines.....but that's really what you want on that tailwater. Perfect for floating and still fairly good for wading (swimming trunks style wet wading).

The water coming out of the old riverbed will have some color to it after heavy rains, but once the turbines come on....it clears right up. It is still fairly cold coming out of the turbines....measure 56 at the Steps Sunday.

Bugs are fairly cut and dry right now......big isonychias and small olives.

Tyler,
No need to go down there, Rocky and Hans have sore lipped most of the fish in the river over the weekend

I'm actually thinking about another visit down there this weekend, didn't do the small stream in the area that I planned last weekend. I might just give it another try this Sat. Anyone interested in meeting up let me know!

Just got back from the Hiwassee. Didn't do so good out there... Water was EXTREMELY low due to TVA not running the generators. Fished at the bridge in Reliance just downstream of Woody Island. There were a few other anglers out there and the whole time I was there, I didn't hear any reels zinging or fish splashing around. Tough morning on the Hiwassee. Heading to the Tellico sometime in the next few days.

**I came across a very helpful and informative map/brochure at the Hiwassee Angler fly shop in Reliance, that shows the river, roads, access points, hatch **

Gotta go higher than Reliance this time of year.

The "kill it and grill it" guys, warmer temperatures and stripers push the smart fish upstream.
