Yes it was on the Hiwassee. That was probably taken about 1998. I was fishing with a guide named C.J. who I was told is now a conservation officer for TWRA. It is the only time I have ever fished there and say every year I am going back, but have yet to do so.

The shopping is the best part! Well sort of.

Yeah the popper was tied on a tube. I'm pretty sure this was the first time we have done this but it worked perfect. We only caught a couple on the poppers but the fly slid up the line and didn't get a mark on it.

I know they do some muskie fishing on the French Broad River near Asheville.

I have caught smaller muskie on Green River in the spring below the dam with rabbit strip flies. Green river is supposed to have a large population if it is something you find you enjoy. For me it was lot of casting. I used a 6wt so turning over big flies was an exercise to say the least.

Please post back with your results. I took an 8 wt to Canada a couple of years ago with a group of guys. I was the only fly rod in the group and ended up fishing my ambassadeurs instead (wimped out!). I might have preferred a 10 wt to my 8 though, the little I did it I was having a hard time. Graphite 10wts might be similar to cane 8wts, but are probably lighter, and the heavier line will load easier, and resist the wind better, if it happens to be blowing. Not having owned a cane rod heavier than a 6wt I can't do more than speculate.
